This half of the site is mainly devoted to Terry Pratchett related stuff (reading his books being a highly enjoyable and often thought provoking way of spending one's time, needless to say).
For details on how to do the Death of Rats costume pictured, see the Discworld fancy dress ideas page. This has been updated with more costumes, including The Great Atuin And The Discworld!
Also, an article on how to be nice to other road users from the point of view of a couple of cyclists (motorists, cyclists and pedestrians please take note).
Archaeology-related stuff coming soon...(ish!)
Thank you to...
I wouldn't have been able to do this without the help of Russ, since I am an archaeologist not a programmer/web developer. Any mistakes in my half of this site are pretty much my own though.
Links
Archaeology-related
- York Museums Trust. My current employer. Check out the Yorkshire Museum for archaeological collections, displays and our new exhibtion "Fingerprints of Time" all about dating things. We have some seriously cool archaeology in the collection!
- York Archaeological Trust: Used to work for these guys. I didn't just put the link here because I worked for them though. Take a look for news and web publications relating to York's archaeology. Also there is information about the Trust's attractions, events and services.
Pratchett-related
Here are a few of my favourite links to Terry Pratchett related sites. From these a whole new world of Pratchett mania can be explored...
- lspace.org: lspace is a well respected and informative site for the serious Pratchettphile. Some aspects are slightly mind boggling in their eagerness to document the minutae (e.g. the Deathlist) of the Discworld. However, it does also begin at the beginning for anyone who has been on Pluto for the past decade and needs an introduction to the work of Terry Pratchett. In summary it's THE Pratchett site.
- Discworld Monthly: Visit this site to subscribe to the mailing list for this newsletter - very handy for keeping up to date with events in the Pratchett world. Also contains articles, quiz and usually a competition. You can spend hours here reading the back copies too. Heaven!
- Lyndisfarne Cross Stitch: A bit specialised this one, and not at first sight a Pratchett link. However, if you enjoy cross stitch and the Discworld you might like to see what's on offer here. (Warning: you might spend lots of money.)
- Bonsai Discworld: More information, news, tour dates etc. useful to fans. I do prefer lspace and Disworld Monthly, but this is worth a peek. (Possibly my personal view is due to an irrational distaste at the feel of the site, but don't let me put you off a perfectly good site.)
- Discworld Fandom: Homepage of the Guild of Fans and Disciples. Includes an incrediably comprehensive list of links. You can probably* find links to fan pages of every major character, several pages of character discriptions, reviews, sites belonging to people with particular bees in their bonnets about random Discworld places/items/themes. Just don't forget to eat or sleep. *I have to confess I haven't followed all the links but I have visited some. Most are worth a look. Some of the individual's pages have rather a lot of graphics all on one page.
